Writing & Art
I’ve always been a writer but only recently adopted the label because my writing is becoming more and more present in the work that I do.
Be it spoken word, in devising processes, or as a tool to connect within in my every day being, the art of writing is in my own experience, one of the most direct way to get in touch with our subconscious, our inner worlds and our thinking heart.Other than words and language, I am also intuitively drawn towards sounds that transports you to spaces you’ve never been but somehow know, melodies where memories live, layered sustained tones that hold you, heavy silences that deafen.
My art practice combines all that I am curious about, and currently that is a weaving of both text and sounds, and using that as a gateway into exploring the depths of our humanity as a society.
Approach
I see my presence in the educational space as a guiding light, an initiator of questions, and a holder of space.
As we move out of the old traditions in acting training, the pedagogical approach frees us from the pressure to be loyal to and master only one technique. This is because though it is possible to master a technique created by someone else, we will never truly be the master of it.
It is essential that actors or any performing artists to realise the need to be a master of their own craft, and yes, it can be that they master one technique and that will connect them to their own genius, but most times, it is from the accumulation of experiences and different techniques that will help each one of us unlock our very own brand of mastery, our own version of the craft.
Though performance is my main canvas, my expansion into writing and sound art have given me more colours and tools to facilitate the exploration of each person in their unique journeys.
