Purple shoes.

My childhood was a blur.
I only remembered the bad and less of the good.
How I was forced to get good grades
To eat foods I did not like
To wear clothes I felt uncomfortable in
To look happy when I was feeling the total opposite.
I was a sulky, grumpy kid who wasn’t daddy’s girl or mummy’s precious.
I was never smart enough
obedient enough
pretty enough
fair enough
or talented enough.
I was the kid who wanted the pair of purple shoes instead of the pink.
